Looking for information on Michael Doyle's parents and where he lived in Ireland before going to Canada in the late 1840's or early 1850's.  His nationalization date is 1852.

Michael Doyle is my great great grandfather.  He traveled from Wexford County to Canada and dropped down into the USA to meet up with his brother Larry (Larse) in Pownal Vermont.

Michael Doyle married Mariah/Maria/Mary Duffin in Chicago in January 7,1856 where they lived until their passing.  Michael died in 1907 and Maria died 1908.

Michael's siblings were Laurence/Lawrence/Larse/Larry, Joseph, Bridget, John and Dennis.  (I may be missing siblings.)  I think his father's name may be John but unknown mother(s).

All the USA issued Death Cert say all the Doyle's were born in or around Wexford County Ireland.

Maria Duffin was from New Ross, Ireland.  Her father's name was John Duffin and mothers name was Mary Duffin.  Mary passed away in travel to Quebec. .

John Duffin lived with Maria and Michael until John's death in 1884 in Chicago.

  • Hello, I searched for a Mary Duffin in Wexford, father John and found one, it must be remembered that this is only from church records available on Roots Ireland and other parishes may not have records for this period, however Duffin is not a common name, not sure of its prevalence in Wexford, with these caveats Mary was born in 1825, father John, Mother Margaret Murphy in the parish of New Ross,  there are a lot of siblings including twins to this Duffin / Murphy marriage and the ones I found between 1810 and 1840. Mary had sponsors Patrick Roche and Ann Forestal. Date of baptism is 9th November.

Siblings are Alice & Elizabeth in 1814; James in 1817; Sara 1821; Margaret 1837; Thomas 1824 and 1828, first chap probably died: Michael 1835 and Bridgid 1832: Total 10 children. You can view the registers here https://registers.nli.ie/ can only search by type and date, year and month.

Michael Doyle is a different proposition as Doyle is a Wexford name and Michael Doyle is also common, I could not find a mother with all the siblings, the mother was not always named or incorrectly transcribed according to the notes the writing was unclear, I found 2 Dennis one born in 1822 and one in 1832, they were born in Ballygarret and Tagmon, i could not locate siblings to verify but mothers name not always given either way, there were 12 Michael Doyle's born from 1800 to 1840 and this is only parishes that have records.

    Good Luck

  • Thank you for all your help.  I will follow up on your leads. One day when this COVID virus is over, we plan to visit Co Wexford just to walk through the area we are from.

    Have a Blessed day!
