Hello, fellow members, I will be visiting Kerry around 10th June 2024. My great grandparents marriage was solemnised in the chapel of Kiltallagh, registration district Castlemaine Michael Harris from Ardrahan and Mary O’Sullivan from Gurrane. Marriage was 18th February 1896. They had four children Mary James, Elizabeth and Michael. The family in 1911 lived in House number 11 Ardrahan (Tubrid Kerry) I have compiled a rather large folder of information but I also know that a Michael Harris married Catherine Riordan in 1861 who also living in Ardrahan. I have struggled to find my great grandfathers birth certificate which makes things difficult, but his parents are listed on his marriage document as James Harris and Mary Leary. Any help would be great and visa versa.

I was unable to find a baptismal or birth record for Michael Harris. I did locate a James Harris family ( wife Mary Leary) living in Ballyrobert townland in Kilmoyly civil parish. The RC parish was Ardfert. Baptismal records for Ardfert started in 1859 so it is possible that Micharel was born before 1859 and a record would not be available. Do you know the names of any of his siblings?
FYI-The house number shown in the 1911 census (also 1901) has no significance. RIC constables collected the census forms and they assigned house numbers in numerical order when they visited a townland.

Michael has three siblings James, Patrick, Bridget, Thomas. I have their birth registration parents are James Harris and Mary Leary. The registration found with James Harris and Margaret Leary birth of Michael Harris I wonder if Margaret Leary passed away and James then married Mary Leary?? I will try and check it out.

One possibility is that the priest got confused when registering the baptism and repeated the sponsor's first name as the first name of the mother.
Also, civil registration of births started in 1864 so if Michael was born pre-1864 then only a baptismal record would be available.

Thats a good point, I have checked on the 1911 census and his age listed calculates to 1853 so it would be as you say baptismal record. I have traced all other documents for the rest of the family this way I have them all except his. His three brothers are listed parish Ardfert address Ballyrobert. I will keep looking.
