My gr-grandfather, Michael Keegan was born to Bernard Keegan and Catherine Gillen. I'm not sure where Michael was born as he is nnot listed in the Catholic records of baptisms in the community he grew up. Bernard Keegan's father Thomas had a child in Armagh (not sure if city or county) in 1833. This is per a death certificate. I am wondering if there was work in Armagh and the family might go for a year or so at a time for work when crops were not doing well in Pettigo. This is a long shot but I really do need something for Michael.

  • Thomas is his younger brother. Michael's dad and mom was Bernard Keegan and Catherine Gillen. Bernard's Father was also Thomas. There is no record of Michael being born or baptised in Pettigo. The area preist feels he was born someplace else. But where??? Armagh is a thought because Bernard's sister was born there. Griffith's Valuation has Bernard and before that, his father Thomas, and before that the widdow Keegan and before that another Thomas Keegan. There is also a descendant named Thomas Keegan who moved down to Julianstown, and he's still living there.
