My second great grandfather was born C1842 in Kilbarron Tipperary according to his army service records. Michael was a soldier with the 2/14th (Buckinghamshire) regiment of foot known informally as “The Old and Bold”. The 14th was based at Queenstown in Cork, Ireland when in 1860 the battalion embarked on the Robert Lowe for New Zealand, arriving at Auckland on 29th November 1860.  He then went to Tasmania with the same regiment on convict duty.  Michael’s regiment left Tasmania on 19th March, 1870 but Michael had deserted a couple of months prior.

Does anyone know anything further on Michael or his parents in Ireland?
