Hi I'm looking for information regarding my great great grandfather Michael Prendergast the only information I have for him is he had a sister Mary (migrated to Australia) According to immigration records he was born about 1835 . His death certificate stated it could have been as early as 1822. ( first problem) their parents were Michael & Mary ( no maiden name) Michael sr was a farmer. I don't know where Michael jnr was born his family lived between Chifden and Roundstone in the parish Moyrus. Don't know years . I can't find a birth certificate for the children and marriage for Michael Snr and Mary - thanks Michelle

Michelle:
If your Prendergast family was from Moyrus (Carna) parish then records will not be available. Records for the RC parish start in 1853 (baptisms) or 1854 (marriages). Civil registration of births did not start until 1864.
Did Michael Prendergast Sr. and Mary stay in Ireland? I checked the Griffiths Valuation from 1855 for Co. Galway and there was no Michael Prendergast listed in Moyrus civil parish.
Have you considered DNA testing?
Let me know what questions you have.

Michelle,
The following is a "Long Shot" which may assist in your effort to identify your family.
Michael Prendergast of Gortrummagh, Clifden - Parish of Omey - took out a small loan. Guarantors were Patt Prendergast and Michael Prendergast of same address. Apparently the loan was not repaid in full and the three men were summoned to the Petty Sessions Court in Clifden in 1847 and a warrant was issued for their attendance, as they did not appear.o
There was similar case for a Michael Prendergast of Gortrummagh. One of the Guarantors was a man name "Ennis" same address.
This case is marked Settled. Gortrummagh townland does not have any Prendergast recorded in Griffith's Valuations taken c1850, but it does have families named "Ennis".
Gortrummagh is close to Clifden town - see attached townland description.
I did not find any person named Prendergast in the parish of Moyrus.
