Hi to all members, My husband was adopted and has traced his family from his biological father who is from Ireland. he has new siblings from the same father and has been happily reunited with them. We are now trying to trace his maternal line. The relevant documents have been obtained and he has his mothers name Moira O'Loughlin, she was from Ireland but around 1962 onwards was living in London. We are awaiting the birth records from the catholic childrens home he was adopted from in Islington but there is apparently a 6 month waiting list. Apart from her name and occupation we have nothing much to go on. We do know from details of my husbands biological fathers family that Moira probably came from the county of Kilkenny not far from Caherleske, Urlingford etc.  I have also heard of a lady in Dunnamaggin who was a home economics teacher ( Margaret Walsh) and adopted 3 girls one of whom was called Moira O'Loughlin.  Obviously this may not be the Moira we are looking for as there are a few around with that name. It is also made more difficult as Moira is also known as Mary etc. It would be great to get a reply if anyone has any information. Thanks. BC

  • Hi Patricia my husband was born in may 1962. We are guessing his mother was aged early 20s when he was born so she may have been born between 1937/38 to 1942 ish or thereabouts. Thanks

  • Also we know she was a shorthand typist as listed on his birth certificate. she must have had some guts to travel over to London alone too.
