My Great Grand Mother, Ellen Mary Moloney(she also used the name "Ellen Mary Hutchinson Moloney) at the time of her wedding in Geelong Australia,5:8:1872, provided the following detail about her parents.Father: Richard Moloney,occupation Iron monger,address: Castle Connell. Mother:Margaret Hutchison. She gave her own birth place as O'Brien's Bridge, Ireland and her age as 24yrs. Despite several visits to Castle Connell/O'brien'sbridge and many hours on the web and in research centres I have not been able to confirm any of the above. A newspaper article re her marriage refers to her Grandfather as Captain Hutchinson of Cragine Castle, Mount Hutchinson, county Cork. There is also a possible connection to the Dowling family that had a hotel in Castle Connell C 1846. It may be that Catherine Moloney who married George Dowling was her Aunt, her father's sister.. The Dowlings migrated to Australia and their G/daughter, Catherine Leihy appears to have been a bridesmaid at the wedding of Ellen. I would greatly appreciate any assistance that anybody can provide in my efforts to track this family. Russ.H

Have you tried looking at Church records in Castleconnell for records relating to the family? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Castleconnell parish, follow this link:
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so marriages, births and deaths that occurred after this time would also have been recorded in civil records. Have you tried finding either of Ellen?s parents? death certificates? Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

Did you try searching in the 1901/1911 census records to see if there were still family in the area at the time? You can do so here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
You could check if there were Moloney?s in the area earlier in the century also by using the land records. There are two:
