Hi, I will be in Galway on Sunday and hope to visit some graveyards to try and research my family. My greatgrandfather John Monaghan who eloped to Dublin with his new wife catherine (kate keating) in 1899. He was born on 21st May 1873 to Brigid Lally and John Monaghan. He was baptised in the parish of fohenagh on 1st june 1873. I have bits of information but havnt managed to tie it all together. I have a letter written in 13/2/1921 from Bridie? Galway road, Loughrea to my grandmother saying that eileen had died "last thursday night" (dont know which side of the family this is from). There was a michael monaghan and ellie (/brother and sister) who moved to boston ? jamacia plains. letter from ardara donegal 1941 from a cousin ellie mulhern. i think they moved from galway. also an aunt bee or bree. ( have a few letters but hard to decipher some of the writing. would be grateful if anyone has any additional information. Bronagh (0872925338)

Hello Bronagh
Many thanks for leaving your genealogy message. Below are links to the Irish Census for 1901 Fohenagh with the names Lally and Monaghan.

I had a look at the Griffiths Valuation for Fohenagh but cannot see any Monaghan or Lally listed. see link
