There is another Murroe MOORE family I think are possibly connected to Philip MOORE's family (above).

Edward (Edmund) MOORE and Catherine MEEHAN (marriage date unknown to me)

Children are:   Susan           b. abt 1814
                      Edmund        b. abt 1819
                      Peter             b. abt 1821
Thomas         b. abt 1823     Emigrated to Australia
Margaret        b. abt 1826     Emigrated to Australia
John              b. abt 1827     possibly emigrated to Australia
Patrick           b. abt 1830     Emigrated to Australia
                      Catherine       b. abt 1832

I believe Margaret married John FLAHAVIN in Murroe before emigrating. I don't know about the others' marriages. They probably all emigrated around the 1850s.

It is possible that this Edward (Edmund) MOORE and Catherine MEEHAN are the two who are buried together in Abington cemetery who both died in 1840 (historicgraves.com LI-ABGN-0288).

However, other descendants believe that this Catherine (nee MEEHAN) was the proprietor of Moore's Royal Mail Coach Hotel in William St Limerick in 1846 (Slaters Trade Directory 1846). Obviously she can't be both. :-)

I'd love to be able to find out more about these families before they came to Australia and prove or disprove the connection with Philip MOORE, and also more about their descendants in Australia.

Many thanks

Pam

  • To clarify - I meant that the ones who emigrated possibly did so in the 1850s, not that they all emigrated.

  • Hey Pam

I had a look at the grave stone  and would say that it is most likely that it is the Edmunds grave however Catherine didn't  died in 1840  she erected it for her husband in 1840 when he died ,  so it may be possible that she may have moved to limerick and ran the hotel. - She also maybe be buried there but his is the only inscription on the grave.

As I mentioned in previous reply Land Records would be  a place to start to try and figure out the families, also on the baptismal record for Edmund and Catherines first child susan there is an address for Ahacore , - Since Edmund died in 1840 , the land would probably have gone to his eldest son or his wife catherine if she was still alive.
