Hi there - I am trying to trace a relation from Kiltartan - Martin Mulkere. He lived aorund 1790-1870 or so, and had two sons, John and Patrick Mulkere. They were from Castletown. Martin's parents were John Mulkere (MacCeir) / Catherine Daly I believe. I can trace the line from Patrick (India / Tipperary / New Zealand) and John (Castletown) but not before that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincere thanks.

  • Hi Eanna,

I found two records in the Gort area - John in Beagh 1861 and James in Castletown1868. The name is spelled "Mulcair".

I did not find any record for a Martin Mulcair.

If I find any further records, I will post them to you.

    Regards,

  • Eanna,

The only "Mulkere" I have found in County Galway was in Tynagh parish and Portumna 1800 to 1820.

A Thady Mulkere joined the British Army in Dublin in 1818 and gave his native place as Portumna.

A number of marriages in yhe parish of Tynagh.  No record found for a "Martin Mulkere/ Mulcair on www.findmypast.ie

    Best Wishes,

  • Dear Eanna,

I was born in the parish of Kiltartan near Castletown, the home of the Mulkeres.

I did research on that family and gave it to John Oliver Mulkere, son Of Des, parish of Crusheen, Co. Clare. John Oliver teaches in St. Flannan's College, Ennis, Co. Clare. Are you related to him?

I look forward to hearing from you,

    de Lourdes Fahy (Sr.)

  • Thanks all for the responses.

I am John Olivers first cousin Sister de Lourdes - I live in the US now. I will contact him and go from there. We can't seem to trace bbefore Patrick (India / New Zealand) and John (married catherine Flaherty). Think their father was Martin per marriage record of Patrick but thats about all I have.

And thanks McCoy. I am not aware of a Portumna connection but will keep digging. And while there may be miss spelling of Mulkere going back, I think there was another family of Mulcair that are not related.

    Thanks again. Greatly appreciated.

    Eanna
