Hello. My Great Grandfather, Cornelius "Con" McNelis, was born in Mullyvea, Donegal. Years later he and his four brothers migrated to Minnesota, USA. I'm looking for his parish to find a baptism record. He was born 1860. His father, Neil, dies in Lough Fad on July 26, 1889 and his brother, Patrick (returned after four years in Minnesota, dies on November 21, 1898 in Lough Fad. I can't seem to find where they are buried. Neil's wife went by Kate. Any help would be wonderful.

  • There are two townlands in Co Donegal called Loughfad. One is in the civil parish of Templecarn and the other in Inishkeel.  Inishkeel is the one you need for this family. Unfortunately the RC records for that parish don’t start till 1866.

  • Mauvereen:

The family lived about seven miles from Glenties. There is an Old Glenties cemetery and possibly they were buried there but they may not have a headstone. This link  http://donegalgenealogy.com/olfglentiesgy.htm  has some transcriptions of headstones but I don't see any McNelis records. You could e-mail the parish and see if they are aware of another local cemetery closer to Loughfad.

  • Thank you so much. I at least have a direction to look. Better than I've had in a long time.
