I am researching my irish ancestors and looking for any information on Murphy family from Bandon Cork.

Ann Murphy born approx 1832 father Robert.  She may have had a couple of brothers who were sent to Tasmania Austalia as convicts before she was sent in 1851 also as a convict.  Ann was RC and couldn't read or write.

Ann married William Jones from Hoxton London .  He was also a convict and sent to Tasmania Australia in 1850.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

  • Dorothy:

I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a record for Anne Murphy around 1832 with father Robert. The closest record was an 1838 baptism in Cloyne RC parish but based on your message, 1838 would appear to be too late.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Good morning from here in Australia

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have done the DNA test but so far no one has come thru from the Murphy side of the family.

On the convict report it is stated that she was from Bandon and also she used the alias name of Ellen Tresselitt. This name doesn't show up anywhere. Makes you wonder where this name has come from!!

Not much information to go on unfortunately.

    Cheers
