I am trying to trace any information on my great grandfather Henry joseph Dooley. He was registered as being born in Kings County ( Offaly) in 1858. I am not too sure of any parish name but think Birr may be a place to start looking. He was a Colour Sergeant in the Royal marines in England. He was originally married to a Mary Anne Obrien in East Stonehouse Devon England in 1879. He was widowed and remarried again in Plymouth, June 1888 to a Emily Greenslade Treddinick.

MaryAnne Obriens father was also a Royal Marine and think maybe He came from Ireland as well but i have no further information. I wonder if someone could help me with this info either through the Irish records or point me in the right direction as to the militaryrecords . In anticipation of an earl reply i would be so grateful for any help . Thanks

  • Have just checked the records in St. Brendan's RC church, and we have no record of a Henry Jospeh Dooley/Dooly having been baptised here.

  • Hello,

My suggestion would be that you contact the Offaly genealogy centre to see if there are any records at all. The Irish Midlands (Counties Laois & Offaly) Ancestry service can be contacted here:

    http://www.irishmidlandsancestry.com/content/contact/contact_details.htm

    info@offalyhistory.com / Telephone + 353 (0)57 9321421.

Please note theirs is a chargeable service - there is a form on the website to complete and a first search costs ?10.  Please let them know we sent you!

Let's hope something turns up and then the local parish volunteers can take it from there.

    Kind regards,
