My GGGRANDPARENTS

The closest I can find searching http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_townlands_of_County_Galway is Cloonfane in the Barony of Dunmore, the parish of Dunmore, and the Poor Law Union District of Tuam in Galway.

The webpage allows you to sort by Townland, Barony, Parish, and Poor Law Union.

Hi Steve,Thank you very much for the info you have given me.There are lots of Kelly's in Ireland.I have all the childrens baptisms and they were all baptised in Dunmore rc church.The thing is the Parents Michael and Catherine were not married there and i can not find them anywhere. I would say that Steve is correct about thinking Clonfean is Cloonfane. This is in the civil parish of Dunmore. You can find this is you check Google Maps.

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Dunmore (Tuam). These date from 1833 for both baptismal and marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4211, or the Church of Latter Day Saints, film 1279210 item 4-8. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance. You could also contact the Woodford Heritage Centre who are a paid genealogy service who have records for east Galway. http://galwayeast.rootsireland.ie/

Please add as much information as you know about your ancestors on your message. Information such as dates would really help a lot.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). There is also a book by Noel Farrell called 'County Galway, Tuam family roots: exploring family origins in Tuam', 2004.

Estate records can also offer useful information. National Library of Ireland have some related to the Cllonfane area. The landlord's name is unknown. NLI 21 g 76 (14) and 21 g 76 (26). Mid 19th century.
