I have one lonely document on micofilm as a hint that this fsmily really was in Ireland. It is on the Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers 1655-1915.Nathonal library of Ireland: Dublin Ireland. It's from the Parish of Holmpatrick #06614/03 p23 of 227.
It lists Michael Gowan and his wife Ann had a son James. The rest of the information I have on this family is from census records after they show up in Canada and then in the US. I can't read the document from Holmpatrick and it looks like no one else can either. I only have census info that James was born in 1818. But you know how people forget and accents get involved, etc, etc.
Maybe someone here would know and would be so kind to enlighten me about this family. Thank you

That's it! I believe Annas name was Calback. However, is this the mother of James or the wife? And is there any other information on that document I can use? Thank you for looking into this for me!

Alsoo Anna's name could have been Calbeck but no one can find any parents for her.

Hi there. Are you still researching the Gowans/McGowans in Ireland? Most McGowans started out as Gowen/Gowan from Scotland.
There were a lot of them in South Dublin city, and a lot in Skerries, North County Dublin.
