My Mullins and Hayes Family Story

Catherine Mullins, my (Tony) generation’s great paternal grandmother, had her origins in Ireland. She was born in 1844 to Stephen and Margaret Mullins (nee’ Hayes) being baptised in Croagh, Limerick, in the parish of Kilfinny on the 9thMay 1844.

Earlier there are two other baptism records listing Stephen and Margaret Mullins as parents and revealing the baptism of two of Catherine’s sisters. Alice baptized on 7 February 1839 and Margaret on the 17 February 1840. Thomas, the oldest of Catherine’s siblings, I believe was born in 1837, no baptism record for him so far, nor for John, the third child born in 1841. Continued in the attached file. Cheers Tony

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I enjoyed reading your family story. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a marriage record for Stephen Mullins and Margaret Hayes. The RC marriage records for Croagh parish do not start until 1844 so if they were married in that parish, a record would not be available. Baptismal records start in August 1836. Here is a link to the parish register. You may want to scan the register for a record for John and/or Thomas.

I also checked the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for Croagh and Kilfinny civil parishes and did not find a Stephen Mullins record. Possibly he was deceased or leasing a very small amount of land.

You may want to add Catherine's story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will notice a connection.  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

Regarding your DNA test, can I suggest that you look into a volunteer run site called Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com   You can load your raw Ancestry data to Gedmatch and see if you have matches with people who tested with another company (and also loaded their data to Gedmatch).
