My ggg grandmother's name was Margaret Nagle/Neagle and she was born around 1833 in County Clare. She emmigrated to Australia in the 1850's and married Peter Holland in WIlliamstown Victoria in 1853, and they settled in the town of Kyneton in Victoria. Her marriage certificate states her place of birth as Ennistymon and her parents as Thomas Nagle and Bridget Connors. Her sister Bridget also emmigrated to Australia and she married a Austin Hanrahan. And it also appears her brother Michael emmigrated to Australia, but haven't been able to find much information on him. I am trying to find records of her parents back in Ireland and any other relatives. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unfortunately Catholic baptisms for the parish of Kilmanaheen (Ennistymon/Ennistimon) are only available back to 1870, which is a little unusual. The average starting date for records for Catholic registers in rural areas is about 1830. There were three churches listed for the parish back to the 1830s at least so the parish dates back much further - maybe registers where lost in some accident in the church ?

Griffth's Valuation shows about 80 Neagle/Nagle/Nagle entries for Kilmanaheen civil parish, so quite a common surname in the area when the valuation was carried out in September 1855.

The Clare County Library Website has a big collection of records for the county so definitely a worth a look...
