Hello, hope that you all are doing ok I was trying to figure out to whom I need to look in the records or how to trace this:

My great grandparents Edward Higgins ( son of James Higgins-born in Granard- and Mary Farrell) who was born in Ballymore, married Eliza Barrett who I´m very confident that is a daughter of Eward Barrett and Mary Higgins, says that they are 3rd cousins in the marriage record here in Buenos Aires. Then I knew that James Higgins and Mary Higgins are related, but how do I find the baptise of Mary Higgins, and where? hahaha any ideas????
Mary Higgins married Edard Barrett in 1839 in Toberclare, Westmeath

Any kind of enlightning will be apreciated

  • Diana:

Since the marriage took place in Tubberclair, that was likely Mary's parish in 1839 and possibly she was baptized in that parish. The baptismal records for Tubberclair, however, only begin in 1829 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0938  earlier records would have been lost.

It is possible Mary was baptized in another parish but Mary Higgins is a common name and there would be no way to confirm any of the Mary Higgins baptismal records available on the subscription site Roots Ireland in the 1810-1820 period.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hi, Roger, thank you so much... your answer is what I was thinking... her name is so common. And yes, I´ve considered testing my DNA, I think in some ancestors is the only way, to test and see if any relative pop up as a match and help me to find more about it
