John is elusive, I must say. Born approximately 1864, emigrated about 15 years later. I only know this drom family stories. I hqve not found him in a census in NYC that I can be sure is him. He married a Mary Murphy, no relation, and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Catherine. He died 1908. Hie parents on his death cert are Farrel Murphy and Bridget Dyer, both of whom appear in the 1901 census and Griffiths with many other Murphys. I cannot find his birth or baptism. One other story: someone in the family, either a Murphy or a Welsh, might have gone to Massachusetts first, then left for NYC. I think I am the only family member who heard this, so it could be nonsense. Just for fun, I am also looking for Yhomas Welsh, nirn approximately 1840, who appears in a census in 1870 with his ife, Margaret Donly (Donnelly). I have no evidence either of them came from Sligo but that is the only county name that I heard in my childhood, so I am putting it out there. I have posted the searxh for John several years ago, with no success but in that short time, the entire genealogy world seems to have expanded with so much more ondormation, I thought I would try again.
