Sometime around 1846 Margaret Scannell married Timothy Nolan in County Cork. I don't know where in County Cork just the county name. I had a DNA match to someone with the Nolan name in their tree and so I traced their tree back. I learned about the marriage of Timothy and Margaret and think that is our connection. I am descended from Lawrence Scannell who is the son of John Scannell and Mary, maiden name unknown. All people mentioned were born in Ireland and I blieve in County Cork. I would appreciate any information on Timothy Nolan and Margaret Scannell. I think Margaret Scannell may be a sister to Lawrence Scannell but I don't have any information/proof of that. Any information would be appreciated.

Mary:
Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
I did not find a marriage record for Margaret Scannell and Timothy Nolan either on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie or the subscription site Roots Ireland.
When was Lawrence Scanell born and I assume you have not found a baptismal record? The only record I could find with father John and mother Mary Hanly was in 1840 in Mallow

Hi Roger, thank you for your help. I have a birth date for Lawrence Scannell of December 1848. That information, along with a statement he was from Cork, came from a marriage record in the Archdiocoses of Boston. I had a DNA match to a woman who is a Nolan. Her sister jumped in and has been a big help. She said her her great-grandfather, Michael J Nolan was born in County Mayo in 1847. Michael was the son of Timothy and Margaret Nolan. Margaret was a Scannell before marrying Timothy. Do you think I should put the post on the County Mayo board? I have been looking for the parents of Lawrence for several years with no luck!!

Mary:
I checked again. No Lawrence Scannell baptismal records around 1848 anywhere in Ireland with father John. Likely if he was from Mayo, the parish no longer has records back to that time period.
No need to post in Co. Mayo. All messages end up on our main message board. There are about ten volunteers who respond to most of the messages.
I'm sure I asked you before but have you tested your DNA?

Hi Roger, yes I have had the DNA test. That is how I found the Nolan connection. There was even a match with some Nolan's and a Scannell. Unfortunately those people do not have a subscription to the site so sending messages is useless. The Scannell match probably would be very useful but he doesn't have a subscription so I don't know how to contact him. I know the name Scannell is very common in County Cork. I have traced a family there who had a child born in 1847. That child turned out to be a girl so I knew that was the wrong family!! Also when I was in Ireland a couple of years ago I saw business' with the name Scannell on them. Hopefully someone from Mayo will see my post and answer.
