Hi, my name is Joanne Halpin-Morelli from NYState. My mother was a Millington and her father was Thomas Murnane who married Margaret Kiely in 1896.
I'm trying to find the death notice or obit for my g-grandmother Margaret Kiely Murnane who passed in June of 1961. I found the death registar but have not been able to find the obit.
I'd love more information on Thomas but I don't have his death date, I have found some baptism records for some of their children but not other information on him.
If anyone can provide a link for newspapers that are online for that time period it would be greatly appreciated.
I am hoping this will give me correct, full names of their other children/grandchildren.
Thank you in advance for any information that can be provided.

Hi,
There is a record in the Irish Press dated April 17th 1961 for the death of a Margaret Murnane relict of Thomas, in Limerick on April 16th 1961.What did Thomas work at?

Joanne:
Good work by McCoy, I had tried the Limerick Leader with no success.
Is this a possible death record for Thomas?

Hi Joanne,
In regard to Thomas Murnane, there is a "Thomas Murnane" recorded in the 1901 Irish census in the townland of Spital-land, Civil parish of St. Lawrence and in the 1911 Irish census in the townland of Clonlong, Civil parish St. Nicholas. He is recorded as being an Attendant in the local Mental hospital. The death record provided by Roger for Thomas Murnane in 1938 records him as a Land Steward. He died in the Limerick Infirmary and no home address is shown.
You can get the death notice for Margaret Murnane in Limerick in 1961, in the Irish Press newspaper of April 17th 1961 page 2 - no longer in existence - via www.irishnewspaperarchives.com - Subscription Site.
No family names are shown in the death notice. There is an appreciation notice in the same paper on May 27th 1961.

Joanne,
Correction
Thomas Murnane is shown as "Rathbane, Co. Limerick" in the death record of 1938. There is "Rathbane North and Rathbane South" both in the Civil parish of St Nicholas.

In response to McCoy and what work Thomas Murnane did, on Margaret's death register is list her as
widow of Mental Hosp Employee.John 17, I don't know what part of Limerick they lived in, I have them on a 1901 Cencus says their residence was: Spital-land, Limerick South, Limerick, Ireland
On Margarets Death Register her son was the informant/contact and the address listed looks like 23 Rosson Ave
On Margaret and Thomas' marriage listing in 1896 it looks like Thomas may have lived at the Asylum in Limerick and Margaret lived in Gerryowen, Limerick - that's pretty blurry so I'm not sure if I have that right.

Roger McDonnell, I have seen that death registar but just wasn't sure if it was my Thomas Murnane or not since it didn't list any family members.
McCoy, I will check out the link for the paper that you provided, hopefully I can do a short subscription but maybe I will also put in the Thomas Murnane death date that we have and see if that lists anything.
From the one census and pictures with names written on the back that my grandmother received from her family after she moved here I do have names of the children but am never quite sure if I have the right one when I find a marriage registar.
Thank you all for your help, it's given me a few more leads to run down.
I had a cousin here who did have contact with the family over the years but he has not passed and evidently never shared the names and addresses of our cousins in Ireland.

Thank you everyone for your time and inquiries on my behalf.
With the information you all have provided I was able to get the death acknowledgements from the paper and also with the name of the cemetery I was able to get to their website and they have a very easy search tool. This allowed me to find the grave stone of both my g-grandparents and two of their daughters. I will now look at more censes information and see if any other members of the family are buried in the same cemetery.
Thank you again.
