My Agnew family's DNA indicates we are of Irish origin.  I would like to locate any O'gnihm's or Agnews who believe they descend from the O'Gnimh's of Ireland so we can compare Irihs origins.

  • Patrick Agnew, my g-grand father was born in County Monaghan in 1834. He emigrated to the US with his family. I do not have his father's name, only an old family story that says an Agnew family member was lost on the trip to the US. Patrick Agnew  appears on the Rhode Island census list for 1840. His mother's name is listed as Mary Durfee. His brothers were, Francis, and John. This is all I have been able to learn. In fact, County Monaghan as Patrick Agnew"s  birthplace was listed only in his obituary. All other sources listed only Ireland.

I am hoping that as County Monaghan is also a parish that this may be Patrick Agnew's parish. The only other fact I have is that his mother's maiden name was (Mary) Bogan.

I would appreciate knowing if there is any birth or christening record for Patrick Agnew.

    Thank you.
