I'm looking for information on my great grandparents, Michael J. O'Malley (son of John O'Malley and Mary O'Halloran) born 1854 -  1857 and Bridget Prenderghast (daughter of Peter Prenderghast and Mary Connelly) circa 1862.  A cousin told me they were from Roundstone, although census records in United States only list Galway Ireland or Ireland.  They were in Boston, Massachusetts by 1886 when their first of seven children were born.  Michael died in Revere, MA when he was 38 years old, leaving Bridget to raise the 7 kids, the youngest of which, Martin, was born 3 months after Michael died.  Bridget died in 1932.. Would appreciate any help in finding out if they were indeed from Roundstone and if any relatives remain in that area.  Thank you!!!

  • Hi there,

Unfortunately, the Roman Catholic church records only start from 1872 in the diocese of Roundstone.

You could try checking for their names in the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) and the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available online here: www.askaboutireland.com

With some luck, someone in the local community in Roundstone will know more information about the family.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
