Greetings,

I am from Canada, and new to this. I am searching for my Great Grandparents, William Patrick O'Reilly (1812 -1857) and Julia Rose Garvey (1813 - 1881) both hailing (I believe from County Cavan). Unfortunately I do not know what parish they were from. Any help would be most appreciated.

With thanks,

James Edward O'Reilly.

  • Did they marry in Ireland or Canada? When did they emigrate? What were their children's names? Thanks.

  • Hello Patricia,

Thank you for your prompt response.  I believe they were married in Ireland, probably somewhere in Conty Cavan.  Two of their children Mary (1841), and Ellen (1842) were born in Ireland (presumably Cavan).  Patrick (1844) James (1845,died in infancy?) Edward (1847) John (1851) Thomas (1852) were all born in Canada (Frontenac County Upper Canada i.e. present day Ontario).  From the dates, William Patrick O'Reilly and Julia Rose (Garvey) possibly could have travelled around 1843 as their first child in Canada (Patrick) was born  in1844.

    I hope this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Jim.

  • Hi Jim,

Have you done a DNA test? I have my father's, Thomas Reilly, DNA uploaded at GEDmatch (LX6245094). Your family given names match up with all of mine and our Canada lineage is still a mystery to me. It would be a shot in the dark but maybe we can find out if have a DNA match around the 5th cousin line. My GGG Patrick Reilly was born in 1812-13 in Armagh and I am trying to locate his family there.

  • Hi Melissa,

My apologies, we had a fairly serious medical situation with my wife (which is resolving, thank God), so I am only seeing your message now.  Thank you for reaching out. Yes I have done a DNA test through My Heritage. I don't have an account with GEDmatch, so I'm not sure how we could check.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Jim.
