Looking for any parish records from the Parish of Garvaghy, Banbridge registry. John Madden and Margaret Gordon were married October 9,1863 according to registry records. Place of residence was listed as Garvaghy. Any ideas on how I can possibly obtain any birth records for them? I only know Father's names that were listed on marriage certificate.

  • Please supply the fathers' names.

There would be no birth records in the time period in which you are looking, only baptismal records.

  • Claudia,

As Patricia has said, birth registration didn’t start in Ireland till 1.1.1864 so you won’t find birth certificates for either of this couple. You may get baptism records if you can locate where they were baptised. The records may not be on-line.

In this case they married in the local Register Office so no clues there.

The local Church of Ireland lost all its early records in the 1922 fire so has none for the years you need. Garvaghy Presbyterian has records from 1809.  Copy in PRONI in Belfast. Kilkinamurry Presbyterian lost its pre 1900 records in a fire or similar incident. Dromore RC has records from 1823 and they are on-line on the nli site, Ancestry and Findmypast.

Looking at the 1901 census of Garvaghy, the residents were all either Church of Ireland, Presbyterian or Reformed Presbyterian. I am not quite sure where the local Reformed Presbyterian church would be.  You might need to enquire locally if that was either of the couple’s denomination.
