Hi, my name is Mike Dermody living in Nottingham, England. I'm trying hard to find my ancestral roots in Ireland and the only positive information that I have is of my G. Grandfather Martin Dermody who came to England sometime between 1861 to 1869. He married Mary Connelly in Rugeley, Staffordshire, England at the age of 23 years in 1870 and his fathers name was Patrick. According to the 1881 England Census he was born in Dunmore, Ireland.
Website rootsireland.ie have a Church Baptism Record for Martin Dermody dated 06 Nov 1845, address Flaskagh, Dunmore, Co Galway, denomination Roman Catholic, father Patrick Dermody, mother Mary Hussey, sponser Bridget Keaveny.
I also found a Church Marriage Record for Patrick Dermody to Mary Hussey dated 13 Jan 1845, parish Dunmore, Co Galway. Witness 1 was William Connor, witness 2 was Margaret Mannion.
I would appreciate it if anyone can give me more information on the Dermody family or point me in the right direction for getting more.
Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. Have you considered looking at the land records called Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). This might give you more information about Martin. You at least have some idea of where he came from, so this document might shed some light for you.
Also check the marriage record of Martin and Mary Connelly if you haven't already done so.
I hope this is of some help. Best of luck with your research!
Kind regards,
Sinead Cooney

Hi Sinead,
Many thanks for your reply and suggestions. I do have the marriage certificate of Martin and unfortunately the Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) doesn't contain details of juveniles (which Martin would have been). The Valuation does however contain a lot of information and if a direct link to a family member could be established within it, then it would be extremely useful.
LDS Family Search have film records on Dunmore, in particular record number 1279206 item 6-9. To date however I've not been able to see this record.
As time progresses, Irelandxo members may be able to offer further information regarding Patrick and his family, so until then many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Mike
