My great grandfather....Patrick Henry Tobin was born In Clonmel Tipperary Ireland in 1828. He immigrated to the US in 1850 together with his wife Margaret Morrisey Tobin.  His father was Michael Tobin of Tipperary. I hope to visit in September . If anyone can help me with more information I would appreciate it.    Michael Tobin  mtobin999@gmail.com

     ( See Below )   Patrick . . . born 1825 . . .

                              Patrick . . . born 1823 . . .

    There are other hits for a Patrick . . . born in  " Powerstown " . . . which is a district . . just N. of Clonmel . .

    See Map . . below . . .

    Next I searched for a MARRIAGE . . between Patrick / Margaret Morrisey . . . circa 1855 . . +//- 10 yrs.    in ALL Ireland  . . . nothing. .

    Next . . a search for the BIRTH of a MICHAEL . . . in Clonmel . . . time line . . . 1805 . . + // - 10 yrs.

    ONE only . . . Michael . . in Clonmel  ( see below ) 1803 . . . ( see below )

  • good day:) Can anyone tell me if there are any Tobin birth's in St.Mary's parish in Clonmel from 1803 till 1860. I hit a brick wall with my elusive gggrandfather Michael Tobin whom I know had at least 1 child James Buchanan Tobin born in NY City upper east side? in 1862. James married catherine Kelley and had 17 children so there are lots of Tobin kin in NY city, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. An older aunt since passed away gave his wife's name as Mary Ellen Callaghan. But I have found no record of such a marriage either here or in New York. Any info on Tobins, tobin reserachers around this time period, advice would be much appreciated.I'd like to take a trip to Ireland and visit Dublin but have no definite ansers on Michael Tobin's birth, emigration, parents, siblings etc etc. Thanks.

  • Hi Tobinkin:

I did a quick search through St. Mary's Church records which are available online through Roots Ireland with parents' surnames as Tobin and O'Callaghan (with variants) and nothing came up.

Do you have death records for these ancestors who lived in NY?  It may give you more information about their family names.

Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    All the best,

    Jane
