Dear Researchers

I am trying find out information about the parents of my great grandfather Patrick John Cullen, their names, when born, marriage, death, children and relatives etc.
The information I have is that he was believed born in the year 1857 in Tipperary Ireland and migrated to Australia. At the age of 23 he a labourer is believed to travelled on the ship named Glamis from England arriving in Sydney Australia in January 1881. He was an assisted immigrant passenger. He had a cousin named Sarah McGrath living in Australia at the time who sponsored him. He married a Clara Brooks in New South Wales Australia on 13.11.1886. They had 4 children - Mary Elizabeth, John Patrick, Harry and Eleanor. He died in Subiaco Western Australia on 7.9.1940 at the age of 83 years. His father’s name according to his death certificate was Patrick John Cullen, wife stated as unknown and his occupation was said to be farmer. However according to immigration records if the same person his parents were shown as Thomas and Lally or Sally Cullen, Tipperary.
I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on my great grandfather Patrick John Cullens ascendants.

    I searched on two subscription sites (Roots Ireland and FindMyPast) and did not have much success in finding Patrick Cullen baptismal records in Tipperary with father as either Patrick or Thomas. See two records below. Let me know if you have additional information.

  • Hi Roger much appreciate your help so far. Unfortunately I cannot supply any further information on my gg Patrick John Cullen. 
    His roots are quite vague. Death certificate states birth just Ireland and his wife's name unknown. The year of his birth 1857 is correct and matches his age at death of 83.

    The immigration record here also matches a person of same name and age is stated as 23 which would have him born in 1857.

    Sorry I can't be more specific.

    A little bit more information has come to light. Patrick John Cullen we think sponsored his brother John to migrate to Australia as an assisted migrant. John was born in Tipperary Ireland in the year 1865. His parents were Thomas and Sally/Lally Cullen. Thomas was 30 and Sally/Lally was 27 when John was born. John arrived in Australia on 3/2/1885 when he was 20. He died in Australia.

    Further re John Cullen. Immigration records show his place of residence as Leitrim and he had two brothers living in Newcastle Australia at the time of his arrival.
