From what I can piece together Patrick Joseph and Margaret Broderick left Ireland (I think County Cork) towards the end of the 1840's.  My great grandfather was born in Essex Ontario (in Windsor across from Detroit) in 1855.  So we know they were already in Ontario by that time.  This makes sense because many people left Ireland in the 1840's due to the potato famine.   They may have had a daughter named Catherine who may have been born in Ireland in 1850.  They may have had a son named Michael born around 1851 in Ireland.  He married Jemima Moe in Chatham Kent Ontario 1874, but died in Kent 1879.  They may have had two son's besides my great grandfather, Patrick and Martin.  Then they may of had a daughter named Elizabeth in 1865 and she married Patrick Joseph Harvey.

Patrick Joseph Broderick (Sr.) may have had a father named Michael who may have been born around 1801 and also married a Margaret (maybe McNally).  Besides Patrick Joseph, they may have had a daughter named Bridgette and a son named Martin.

I think the family first came to Windsor and lived near the docks in Sandwich.  I found a bunch of Broderick families all living within the same block.  This might make sense if someone found a job and wrote home to tell other family members that there were jobs in Sandwich.

If this sounds familiar, please let me know?

  • Hi J.B. Broderick . . .

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out . . .

    I searched . . . given your information . . . on " Roots " .(paid search engine) . . fairly reliable . . .

    and . . as you will see . . I came up with a mixture of results . . . none of which are conclusive . . BUT . .  maybe a help to your search . .

If they sailed from Cork . . . it might indicate that that was their nearest Port of departure . . .

The Birth / Wedding info.location I gave . . .are from the South Coast of Ireland (see map) . . and Cork would be possible . . .

I did NOT get into any of the Canada info. you gave . . but stuck to Ireland . . for those approx.dates . . .

    The DATES are a mixture . . for you. . maybe . . to sort out  . . . they are only " possible " clues . . .

    I searched for . . . and failed to find any record of the Marriage of Michael / Mgt.McNally . . . in ALL Ireland . . around those dates . . . NIL

    I searched the BIRTHS of . . Michael . . . and/or . . Mgt.McNally  . . all Ireland . . . near South Coast . . circa 1800 . . .NIL

    I will persue . . . another line of inquiry . . . in the Windsor area . . . and . . if/when . . I get a response . . I will get back to you.

    Best I could do . . .

    Cheers . . .Eamonn.
