Hi. I wonder if anybody has any clues as to how I can trace the family of my Grandfather, Patrick Joseph Kennedy?  He was born in Ahascragh in about 1888 or 1889.  He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary probably around 1908 and I have been told that he was stationed in Foxford  before being posted to Limerick.  He emigrated to England in 1920 after marrying Agnes Clarke from County Mayo.  He died in 1957 before I was born so sadly I never met him. I have no idea what his brothers (or sisters) were called although he called his own male children Matthew, Patrick, Thomas, Michael and Phillip so possibly these were also "family" names. My brother and sister and I would dearly like to find out more about him but unfortuantely have left it a little late.  Our parents and the Uncles and Aunts who may have known some details are now dead. . If anybody could give any hints, however small, I would be very grateul. Particularly we would like to find out who our Great Grand Parents were.  Who knows, we may even have distant relatives living in Ahascragh! Any hints would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Jane

  • Interested in your query re Patrick J. Kennedy.  My name is Patrick Joseph Smyth and my mother's maiden name was Kennedy.  She is now 88 years of age.  She had an uncle named Patrick Kennedy born around 1889, who at some stage joined the police force in Birmingham.  He was the son of a Matthew Kennedy and Mary (nee Pender).  Patrick's brothers were Michael, John and sisters named Katie and Mary Ann.  Is it possible this might be your Grandfather?
