Hi, weve just arrived back from a few days in Dublin, we were trying to find the burial place for Patrick's father (also Patrick) we were told that Kilkerley/Kilcurly was in the parish of Dunbin but couldn't get any further information.
Details from the birth cert for his son .....
Birth:27th Nov 1868 in the district of Dundalk, County of Louth
Patrick Mallon - Father: Patrick Mallon - Occupation: Blacksmith - Dwelling Place: Kilcurley or Kilkerley
Mother: Margaret Mallon (formally English)
Patrick (snr) married Margaret English 10 Feb 1862 Kilkerley, Haggardstown, Louth
His death certificate says....
Death 27 Feb 1907 Kilkerley, Dundalk
Patrick Mallon Male Widower 76 yrs Blacksmith - present at death John Mallon son Kilkerley (see below census)
Could this be the correct family although surname spelt differently and ages all over the place!
1901: Residents of a house 1 in Carnroe (Castletown, Louth)
Mallin Patrick 64 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic Blacksmith and Horseshoer
Mallin Margaret 60 Female Wife Roman Catholic
Mallin John 28 Male Son Roman Catholic Blacksmith and Horseshoer
Mallin Patrick 26 Male Son Roman Catholic Engine Smith Railway Works
Mallin Kate 26 Female Daughter Roman Catholic General Servant Domestic
Mallin Eliza 22 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Dressmaker

We would dearly love to visit Kilkerley and find Patrick's burial place, can anyone help?

Hi Sandra and Kenneth, firstly I have been unable to locate a grave inscription for Patrick Mallon mainly because I think the graveyard has not been transcribed which is unusual as the County Louth Arch. & History Society have transcribed graveyards for a hundred years, must be still some to go, most transcribed graveyards are here but not the full inscriptions which can be located in the various publications. http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/
I recommend you email the Louth Library here and ask about graveyards for Kilcurly area, the research section is in Dundalk. https://www.louthcoco.ie/en/Services/Library/Genealogy-Research-Sources/ or you could ask the parish church but I think the parish may be divided in more recent times.
https://www.ourladyqueenofpeacepa.org/ Also headstones were not always erected but for a blacksmith I imagine they would be as it was I think a poverty thing.
The fact he was a blacksmith should help you locate the actual area or building if still standing. I searched a subscription site for children using mother English and the first child was Mary born in 1862, there is no sign of here on the census and I did not raise a marriage either. Birth years for the others found were John 1866; Catherine 1871 and Elizabeth 1874, there may be other children with the mothers maiden name not given, you should be able to trace civil registrations post 1864 here https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Only civil records for Louth available and use variant spellings as Mallon is not as good as Mallin for bring back variants I think. From the census ages you gave and the births I found hopefully his money counting was better than his year counting!!!
In case you are unaware of it there was a land census between 1848 and 1864 Griffiths Valuation, around 1853 or 1854 for Louth, if you can do it there are maps to locate the plots etc, a bit time consuming, I see a James in Dunbin, Carnroe which is on the Carrickmacross Road from Dundalk, also a number of English in the area, including some in hte neighbouring townland of Allardstown. http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameS… Maps can also be seen and got here, I understna you can overlay them if your skills are good enough, not mine though. https://www.osi.ie/
In case you did not see it the 1862 marriage register is here and you can view the entry, no parents names though. https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632580#page/33/mode/1up
Sorry about the lack of a graveyard but I will keep looking as I go, you may hit lucky if you join the private Facebook page Louth Genealogy and post a query and someone for the area may see it, just apply to join and usually less than a day. Actually think it may be administered from England.
Feel free to ask follow ups if you wish and hopefully some of the suggestions will bear fruit. It is worth bearing in mind too that some RC burials can be in Church of Ireland graveyards.
Good Luck

Thankyou so much Pat for taking the time to look at this for me. I've been looking at the links you gave but found nothing as yet.
However, I won't give up!
Cheers
