A GG Uncle of mine (James J Ryan 1848-1929) from Castllecomer emigrated to NY and then to Philadelphia PA in about 1869.  I recently got a copy of his will where I found he had given a large sum of money to one of his cosuins named Mary Bridget Ryan Shaeffer. I traced her back to Ireland and found her birth family in Ironmills Ballinakill County Laois. I found her family in both the 1901 and the 1911 Irish censuses. Her father was Patrick Ryan 1848-1906 and mother Rose Brannigan 1851-? there were 9 children Denis, Edward, Katie, Mary B,  Julia, James, Annie, Patrick and Bridget. I am interested in tracing Patrick back further in Ireland. I found on her father Patrick's death certificate that his father's name was Dennis. I would like to know who Patrick's mother's name was or how I might be able to find that? I did find a Catharine Carroll married to a Denis Ryan but I am not sure that is correct? I would also like to know when Dennis died. I found a Dennis Ryan in the right location who died in 1877 but I am not sure it is my Dennis? Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated! This is exciting for me because it was not until I found Mary Briget in James J Ryan's will that I even knew I had relatives in County Laois.

    I located this record on the subscription site Roots Ireland. Also, the death record for Dennis Ryan is an index record. We are waiting for the www.irishgenalogy.ie site to add the actual images for deaths from 1864-1877. No date at this time but usually in the Fall they add more records. The other alternative is to contact the General Register office to get a copy of the record. It would show where he lived and the informant's name and sometimes the relationship of the informant to the deceased. (You also get date of death and cause of death plus marital status).
