Phineas would be a very rare name in Ireland. The 1901 census only had five people with Phineas for a first name.

I did search the subscription site Roots Ireland and there were no Phineas Blake baptismal records. There were some Francis Blake baptismal records in the 1830s (none in 1837) but without knowing his parents names, we can't confirm any records.

Perhaps you might have some DNA matches with others with the surname Blake in their ancestral lines who might have additional info.

    Dougreys,

Perhaps you would get a copy of the marriage of Phineas and Ellen. The name of Phineas parents may be on it. Ellen according to the 1900 census was born in New York of Irish parentage c1846.

Copies of the census are attached.

    Dougreys,

Please see record of Phineas Blake in Monroe County in 1875. His age has been omitted.

His wife Ellen Theresa McEvoy was born in New York. Her father was possibly named Charles McEvoy!.

The surname McEvoy/McAvoy is very common in the Province of Ulster, less so in the other Provinces.

  • Dougreys,

Please see copy of Michigan census - June 1880. Is this Patrick F. Blake identical to Phineas Francis Blake?
