My 2g grandparents were married in 1847 in the Saints Peter and Paul Church. I found this picture recently and I was wondering if this would have been the church building standing in 1847. Years ago Fr Rispin sent shard of stain glass from the church when it was demolished.

Thank you,
Jim

  • Your photo seems to be of St. Peter's Church of Ireland in Dunboyne ( buildingsofireland.ie / National Inventory of Architectural Heritage) which was built in 1865. The Church is also shown as "St Peter & St Paul" on the CofI parish website. This church is still in place..

The Catholic Church now in Dunboyne is more recent and was built 1956 and is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul - see Saint Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Dunboyne, County Meath. From old maps it seems there have been at least two older RC churches on this same site - the one at this location on  the c1890 OSI map is shown as SS. Peter & Paul RC Church, the older OSI map, c1840, shows a smaller unnamed chapel.
