Planning trip to Athlone

Thank you for your query to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site.  The Old Athlone Society which is a local history group has a very good website with some great links that you might find useful in planning your upcoming trip.  https://athlonehistory.ie/web-links/

As to places to stay,  there are a number of hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and self-catering places in the area.  Athlone is a large town with a lot of different facilities including an Institute of Technology, a shopping centre and the Shannon River port.  You can view accommodation choices through Booking.com, Trip Advisor and Expedia. 

If you are planning a trip to Athlone, the Spring,Summer and Fall would be nice due to its location on the Shannon River.  I will copy this post to several volunteers in the West Meath area who might be able to offer further advice.  Please keep us posted on your travel plans.
