K Ryan:
On the surface, it would appear they were brothers. The RC parish for Ballynoe civil parish was Conna. Baptismal records for Conna parish start in 1832 but marriage records start in 1844. Civil registration of deaths started in 1864 and Conna RC parish does not have any pre-1864 death records. So there are no church records to help answer your question.

Thank you for your reply. I am aware of the limitations of the parish records. That is why I was hoping a local might have knowledge through some other means - family word-of-mouth, etc. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone has this sort of information, please let me know.
