just to add to Roger's reply - the entry for Derryevin townland on the Placename Database on Logainm.ie - shows several variations including Deriven, Derevan, Derewin etc. The probable name in Irish is "Doire Eimhin", 'Evin's oak wood'

We are looking for the same information, as Michael is also my 3rd great Grandfather.  We know Michael ended up in Iowa, and his brother Patrick made his home in McHenry Illinois area.  Are you willing to share any of your information?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hi Joe, absolutely, Michael is my 3rd Great Grandfather as well, his son Terrence my 2nd Great Grandfather, his son Joseph by Great Grandfather and his son Leonard my Grandfather.  Michael, Terrence and Joseph all lived and farmed around Bluffton, IA about 15 miles from where I grew up and Leonard my Grandfather farmed in Amherst Township in Fillmore County, MN.  I also have info. on his brother Patrick which lists a lot of the family history of Patrick but also info. on Michael and Patricks parents names which are (Terrence and Mary (Tierney)) and Terrence's father name was Patrick (our 5th Great Grandfather).  Feel free to send your e-mail if you want and I'll scan the documents I have and send to you.  Thanks!
