I have found no history of the surname Quick in Ireland but according to US census records my 2x great grandfather Nicholas Quick was born in Kerry on 12 Apr 1816.  He came to the United States as a teenager about 1831 and ended up in the state of Indiana.  Does anyone know about the Quick family in Kerry?  Some have said they may have been Cornish but we have no information to prove that.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked at the the Tithe listings from 1825-1826 in Co. Kerry and there were five Quick records for leasing land. Hopefully this link to the National Archives site will work.

There were no Quicks in the 1852 Griffiths Valuation for Co. Kerry.

The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie has four church records for Co. Kerry where a Quick was listed as a witness or sponsor.

The 1901 census had 39 people with the surname Quick but none in Kerry. They were mostly in Cork or Dublin.

The 1911 census had only 24 people with the name Quick mostly in Dublin and Cork but there was one Quick in Kerry.

  • Hi

Never heard the surname Quick in Kerry. Would it have evolved from Quirke or Quish? Many names were altered when people went to America.
