  • Jean,

Can you give us some dates as to when (approximately) Daniel & Isabella married or when Arthur was born?

  • Jean,

Here’s a link to Arthur’s baptism in July 1831. The sponsors were Arthur McGuigan and Margaret Rafferty. The townland (address) looks like Therman or Herman but I cannot identify it for certain.

If you want to go through the records you may spot some siblings. The baptisms start in 1821 but there is a gap between Dec 1829 and April 1831. I have searched for siblings on Ancestry but cannot find them, nor Arthur’s baptism so suspect either they don’t have that parish or he’s mistranscribed. So you might just have to plod through the records yourself. If you find any with a more legible townland, let me know and I’ll try and verify it.

I searched for deaths for Daniel & Isabella Rafferty in the Dungannon area, 1864 to 1900 but without success, suggesting that either they had both died before 1864 (which is when death registration began in Ireland) or moved away from the Dungannon area. Did they go to Scotland too perhaps? Or you could check the burials on the nli library link I gave you. Most RC churches didn’t keep burial records but Dungannon (Drumglass parish) did, so you might be in luck.

  • Hello,

I have some information on Dan Rafferty & Isobelle Mc Guigan, they married in Dungannon  on 02/03/1829. Isobelle was from Drumglass...Not sure where Dan was from but I think it could be 1 of 2 parishes, Termonmaguirc or Ballintacker, {old parish names} known now as Carrickmore & Beragh,

they are adjoing parishes.Witnesses were Artur Mc Guigan & Pat Shales ....Sheilds

    Their children,

14/10/1929 Bernard  Godparents.....Artur Rafferty & Elizabeth Mc Guigan ....Drumglass Dungannon

Arthur    01/07/1831    Godparents Arthur Mc Guigan & Margaret Rafferty .......Drumglass Dungannon

George   12/05/1833     Godparents  John Rafferty & Anne Mc Guigan              Rossmore Dungannon

Patt05/03/1838             Godparents John Skiveton ....Skeffington   Roseanne Donnelly

There is a possibility that this Rafferty Family and my husbands family  maybe related....Much more research is needed.
