Hi,

Where can I find a Guild that would have Saddle and Harness makers registered?

Also were the Guild by Counties or National?

  • Anne,

This is a link to a query about the same trade which does not appear to have identified any significant pre 1900 records in Ireland.

  • If this relates to Dublin city then it might be worth checking the 'Ancient Freemen of Dublin' database on the Dublin City Library website : https://databases.dublincity.ie/freemen/about.php

Many of these Freemen were admitted by virtue of completing an apprenticeship in one of the Dublin trade guilds.

Similar rules regarding freemen may have also applied in other large towns and cities.

As far as I know the Saddlers belonged to the same guild as Upholsters and Harness makers, in Dublin city at least, and they used Tailor's Hall on Back Lane as their meeting place (behind High Street).

    see Wikipedia entry : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailors%27_Hall
