Good day!

I am looking for as much information on the birth of my Great-grandfather, John O'Donnell in 1836 with a mothers name of Margaret O'Connor (Connors ?) and a father O'Donnell, who may have had the first name James or Michael or Jeremiah. The location of the birth is Limerick, but the records do not indicate if it was the County or the City.

I do not know if this helps, but the father of John died sometime around 1842 or 1843 because John and his mother immigrated to Canada before 1845.

This has been my brick wall for 50 years or more. I would really appreciate any help.

Kind regards,
Lyle O'Donnell

  • John Donnell's baptismal record is transcribed at RootsIreland. He was bap. 22 May 1836. Parish: Manister, County: Limerick. Mother, Margaret Connors. Father, Jeremiah Donnell. Child illegitimate. Witness: Jno. Guane.
There were no birth records in 1836.
I think your brick wall has cracked!

  • Thank-you very much, Patricia!

Now, how can I find more about Jeremiah Donnell?

  • Why not search church records at irishgenealogy.ie to see if he married and to see when he was baptized? It may not be easy, as there are likely several men named Jeremiah o'Donnell. Good luck!
