My ancestor Felix Cunningham O'Neill, who died in 1858, and is buried in front of Cargin R.C. Chapel with his wife Mary O'Neill, daughter of Bernard O'Neill, originally of Ballygrooby and Dunmore near Randalstown, was named after I believe Rev. Felix Cunningham. He was born at Feevagh-house, where his father Hugh O'Neill, Esq. is listed on Lendrick's Map of 1780, he died in 1814. I believe the Rev. Felix Cunningham was probably his priest and/or friend.

Does anybody know anything about this Rev. Felix Cunningham ? The only information I can find about him is from O'Laverty's History of Down and Connor, where it states :

"The Rev. Cormac O'Hagan succeeded Mr. Killen. He
was a native of the parish of Clonduff, but he atEliated to
Down and Connor, and was ordained in Ballynaliinch by
Dr. Brady, Bishop of Dromore. After officiating for some
short time as curate to the Rev. Felix Cunningham, P.P.,
Duneane, he was appointed to the parish of Lower Mourne,
which he held till his appointment in 1814 to that of Kilcoo."

Can I suggest you contact the Diocese to see if they have any records on Rev. Felix Cunningham.  http://www.downandconnor.org/

  • The OS memoirs for Duneane, dated 1837, say:

“About 127 years ago the Reverend Henry McCorrey was the priest of this parish and he was succeeded by the Rev (Blank) McVey. The third was Rev Paul McCarton, the fourth was Rev Felix Cunningham, the fifth was Rev Hugh Devlin…..”
