My great grand parents were John Reynolds and Mary Crosby.I believe that the Reynolds family were possibly from Kilgerril while the Crosby may have had connections with Rabane, Castleblakeney. A daughter of John and Mary, Bridget Reynolds born 1846, married my grand Father John Nolan of Kilglass, Ahascragh in Fohenagh Church on 4th February 1864. I am trying to piece together the early family details of the Reynolds and Crosby families and if anyone has any information it would be appreciated. It would be interesting to know if any decendents are still in the area.
Many thanks,

The Crosby family would be from Rabane, Castleblakeney. The last of the Crosby’s from there passed away in the last year or so. However there are relatives of theirs living nearby in Caltra. There are Reynolds families still in Kilgerril. However I don’t see them on the 1901 or 1911 census.

Hello Freda,
Many thanks for your reply. My great grand parents John Reynolds and Mary Crosby died within 6 months of each other in 1891-2. Mary died at her daughter Bridget's (my grand mother) house in Kilglass while John died at his son John's house in Killuremore so they seem to have left Kilgerril by the end of the 1800's. I have found 5 children of theirs but I am sure there were more so there must be distant cousins still around! There seems to be many different branches of the Reynolds families so it is difficult to be precise with relationships. I have seen a Reynolds family grave in Kilgerril cemetery on line but it does not contain names familiar to me. I have been told that we are related to Garda Reynolds who was shot but again I dont have proof. My uncle Andrew Nolan's wife's family Gready / Grady of Fohenagh are also linked into Reynolds family.
Where is Kilgerril and Killuremore situated in relation to Ahascragh / Fohenagh. Does Killuremore have a cemetery of its own or where would nearest one be.I have always assumed that my great grand parents are buried in Ahascragh Old cemetery without a headstone. As far as Crosby families are concerned I have not been able to make any headway with ancestors. There are lots buried in Caltra but again I cannot link them to Mary Crosby with any certainty.
Do you have any contacts with decendents of either families whom I could contact to try and get more info. Are you living in the area? You can contact me directly at birchwood04@eircom.net if you wish.
Best regards,
