Looking for any info on John Reynolds born 1828 died 1921. Buried on Hill of Doon near Castle Kirk in Galway. He married Honor Barret (1880) (have her birthplace as Leckavara which I cannot find any place with that name but on her passport it says Maam Co <Mamm's Cross?>) and she immigrated to US in 1930 and died shortly thereafter. He also had a first wife, possibly an Anne O'Connor from County Cavan though I have nothing to substaniate this. I would love any info about him, his parents, wives, etc. Thank you!

  • Norah:

I'm not the volunteer that Emma mentions in her note. I think Honor's townland may be Lackavrea in Kilcummin civil parish in Connemara. There was only one family in that townland in the 1901 census and their name was Barrett. Possibly they were the parents of Honor.

  • Thank you Roger. They may be relatives but not parents as she was born in 1859.  Sorry, I should have mentioned that. And . . it seems she grew up by Lough Corrib as I've been told there are Barretts there and that's where her husband was -  John Reynolds, County Galway.

  • My grandfather was Michael Reynolds whose was one of  the Reynolds boys who  settled in teh Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh PA in the late 1800s - early 1900s on different dates from Maam's cross area of Galway on Lough Corrib. I have visited the family cottage twice. it is now an animal barn.

as i know it, there were 2 families that intermarried , on on either side of the Lough. i believe members of both came to the USA. there was one woman named Honor.... it was an odd name and i remember it in 'family lore" .  there is an overgrown family cemetary on the land.... which is now owned by a nice Catholic family. Mr Reynolds senior was the gameskeeper for a British aristocratic landholder in the area. hence, the Anglo name "Reynolds" and my grandfather was a practicing Anglican.

i could probably dig up more info..... but if this is of interest, let me know.
