  • Hi there! I also have him in my family tree. He is my 6th-great-grandfather through my mother's side. Any luck finding his parents? I can't seem to locate him anywhere before he comes to America. The generated family tree gives me John Nagle for his father and Honora (?) as his mother.

  • I have just found that his fathers name was either Richard or John. His mothers maiden name seems to be Garrett. I found 3 apparent siblings. John (nothing solid on him though). Henry (1740-1800, seems to have immigrated as well, it shows his death was Cambria County, PA). And Margaret Curtain (Nagle) (1735-1798) shows she never left county Cork. Her husbands name was Daniel and they had a son William.

  • Hi! I have that Richard and his two brothers (Henry and John) immigrated to the US through Baltimore. (I can't find immigration records fromLived in western Maryland and all three served in the Revolutionary War. After the war, at least Richard and Henry moved north to Cambria County, PA. I did have written down that there could possibly be a sister that stayed back in Ireland, so having her name really helps! I am on the FamilyTreeDNA website and a guy popped up on one of the group sites saying that he matched with me, but the only Nagle he could find on his tree was a Patrick Nagle (circa 1784-1825, Cork Ireland); married Ellen (Roche); children - Gerals, Honora, and Catherine. I'm just starting to dig into the connection there. No luck yet though. Maybe William is the father of the above Patrick (???). I can't find any definite proof of parents though. I did find this story about Richard: https://www.americanrevolutioninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/… (scroll down to "The Old Soldier"). It was part of a museum exhibit back in November.

I do not know if his brothers came at the same time.

  • My fathers name was Richard F Nagle, his grandfather was also Richard Nagle from Cloghvoolia, via Killavullen. His father was James Nagle, and his grandfather was Richard Nagle, And ewe then trace our line to Mary Nagle (sister of Nano)and Pierce Nagle her husband/cousin. I ve studied as much as I can about this lineal tree and it seems to getting blurry once pat Garrett Nagle , father of Sir Richard. . I have a book for any family members, its 124000 words, and on a google doc file , you can email me for a copy gratis. It's about Baronet Admiral Edmund Burke Nagle KN KCB GCH ADC and Groom of Hs Majesty's Bedchamber ( to naughty boy George IV) the book is entitled, The Regent's Butler's Tale: being the true story of Edmund Blackadder III and his alter ego Lord Horatio Hornblower. Through extensive study I have discovered that Admiral Nagle ( who was Edmund Burke's cousin-once=removed, his godson, and his adopted ward) is the man C S Forester used almost wholly and solely to write the Hornblower saga of books. Likewise Be Elton & Richard Curtis have also used Admiral Nagle's secondary career as the best friend, longest serving groom, and court buffoon of George IV to write Blackadder the Third for the BBC i 1987. As Gene Roddenberry admitted in the late 1960s , he used Hornblower as his model for Captain James Tiberuis Kirk of Star Trek. The details , evidence and conclusions I draw in writing the memoir of Edmund Burke Nagle are extensive, thorughly checked, documented, and irrefutable.
