Hi - I am looking for the residence of Richard Fitzgerald of Tallow (1794-1867). He may be the one with house, offices and gardens worth 19 pounds in Griffith Valuation under TOWN OF TALLOW (PART OF) - No. 8 - Tallowbridge St. However the Griffith Valuation map does not seem to indicate the positions of the houses in the town. Looking at a modern map, Tallowbridge St now seems to be Convent St. Can anyone find this house??

I checked the various Griffith's Maps available online and although several showed Tallowbridge street quite clearly none include site numbers. The best chance of finding a more detailed map to go with the valuation , if one has survived, would be at the Valuation Office in Dublin, usually you would have to visit the office as they do not currently have records online, but might be able tell by email or phone if they might have a more detailed map for Tallow in their archive. The Valuation Office also hold the Cancelled Land books which can be used to trace properties forward from the Primary Valuation up to the 1970s.
I had a look at the c1840s and later OSI maps and agree regarding Tallowbridge street / Convent Street - name seems to change some time during the early 1900s, the street seems to be referred to as just Bridge Street in most earlier listings.
