I have an ancestor, Robert Russell or Robert Stephen Russell, believed to have been married in Seagoe Ireland in 1732, his wife may have been Abigail Wright.  Can anyone help me find any pertinent record of this marriage?

  • You haven’t said what denomination the marriage was. However only the Church of Ireland has any records for the mid 1700s in Seagoe. Their marriage records cover 1672 to 1731 and 1735 to 1821. So if the marriage did take place there in 1732 the records are missing. However it would obviously be worth checking a few years either side. The records aren’t on-line, so far as I am aware, but there is a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. They have been indexed and there’s a copy of that index in the self service room there.

  • In 1744 Ann is baptized by a "Robert Russel and his wife. "  There are no other Russell or Russel baptisms or marriages in Seagoe COI records for about that time. .  However, there was a Robert baptized 1721 by "Signey and Mary Russel" and that Robert would be of marriagable age by 1844.   Is your 1832 date that flexible?  Later  in 1753 a Sidney Russel married Ann Whirter of Drumgask, so, Signey probably is Sidney, probably a father and son, and may lead to a way to trace that family. Several Roberts being born after 1770, one to a Drumcree Russell married to a probably Drumgor John Russell.  The Roberts married abouty 1800 to Susannah (Lyness), Matilda, and Martha and lived in Drumgor. If you think your Russells are COI from Seagoe, I would check both locations.

  • I am also trying to trace down information on Robert Russell, possibly middle name Stephen, born approx 1700 and traveled with sons James (b.1733) and William Jeurett (b.1741) to Philadelphia in mid 1740s. I have lost conviction that his wife was Abigail Wright but it does show up in online ancestry sites. They appear to be from the Antrim area. Any information or leads is appreciated!
