Rush / Bones Family

I checked the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and did not find a Winifred Rush marriage to a McDermott. I also searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any marriage records for any of the children using John Rush as the father's name.

Here is the 1901 census record for the family and I note that Winifred's age is overstated.

I did not find the family in the 1911 census.

Most people who left Kilmovee parish went to Philadelphia. Is that where your great-grandma emigrated to?

I also have Rush ancestors from Kilmovee but the name is very common in the parish.

Thanks for getting back to me . My Great Grandma came to England and settled in West Yorkshire were I live. 
She came with Michael, Bridget, Anne & Ellen . Margaret ( Peg) went to Philadelphia and we don’t think Mary married . I have been in touch with a distant relative in America that told me as far as he was aware Winnifred married a John McDermott . I have done both AncestryDNA and MyHeritage.

FYI I located possible death records for John and Catherine in 1906 and 1907 from Sonovolaun. However, the ages were much younger than what I expected based on ages in the 1901 census so I did not pursue those records. You can check out irishgenealogy.ie to see the records.

It’s definitely the correct ones you have found , we seem to think the dates of their birth were recorded wrong. 
I visited the records department in Castlebar when I came to Ireland in June and they helped me find Catherine and John. I’d love to know what happened to john jnr as he would have been the only one to carry the Rush name in if he had had children. We also have some connection to the Duffy’s also through either the Rush side or Bones side. The problem is I can’t find Catherine Bones Mother and Father to see if that’s our Duffy connection.

How are you listed in the Ancestry DNA matches? I think I'm listed as RM. I have 295 DNA matches on Ancestry on my Duffy/Rush line. I was looking at one last night with Duffy and Bones connections (not able to find the match this morning). Maybe we are distant cousins.

Hello Kate and Roger,

I am Robert Watt born in Co. Tyrone, Ireland in 1941, I would like to join you in your enquiry into the Rush family.

You see my great, great, great, grandmother was Mary Rush born about 1775, at his stage we don't know where she was born.

We know Mary Rush married a George Trimble who was born at Clogher, in Co. Tyrone in about1760 and he died there in about 1824.

We have traced the Trimble family back a long way but we can't find anything about Mary Rush,

I scanned the Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there were 353 Rush households listed in the Griffiths. Surprisingly to me, there were a great number in Ulster including at least one in Clogher parish in Co. Tyrone. The other major grouping was in Connaught mainly Galway, Mayo, Roscommon. All the best!

Myself and my Mum were talking about our Irish relatives yesterday and one thing that puzzles us is why did they pick to come to England and not the USA ? 

They were much nearer the coast to be able to sail to America than they were England. 
 

We came to Ireland in June to County Mayo and stayed in Westport. We docked at Dublin and the journey to Westport was very long . We kept asking how our relatives did it as there wasn’t all the modern forms of transportation as you know .

All my Great Grandparents on both my Mum and Dads side ( Except one lot) all came over from Co Mayo, Roscommon, Kerry , Galway and Sligo to West Yorkshire in England. Some of their siblings settled in America but we can’t understand what made them pick the UK and not the USA .

Usually emigrants followed family members who had already left Ireland. So all of your various families in five counties must of had had relatives in West Yorkshire. 

There was a very strong connection for people leaving Kilmovee parish and the general Ballaghaderreen area to Philadelphia. All of my paternal ancestors from that area went to Philadelphia that is why I mentioned Philadelphia in my first reply.

My great great grandfather was Thomas Rush from Mayo. He married Bridget Bowens(Bones, Bouns?) from Roscommon. They married in Wakefield Yorkshire and resided there before emigrating to Victoria, Australia in 1861. Any other descendants out there?

Thanks for all that information, but none of it seems to help me find Mary Rush born about the1750s.

Yes I did have a DNA test done with Ancestry and it came back saying I was about 85% Scottish, 9% Irish and a small percentage Norway / Swedish.
