  • Hi Henry Ruth was baptised 22nd July 1860, mother was Bridgit Dunne, father John was a Private in the 2/14th Regiment, baptism at the Curragh which is still a military base, they were Catholics. This would be the English army at the time.

The Ruth surname is thought to be from Rothe a Kilkenny name associated with the 12 tribes of Israel, McLysaghts Surnames of Ireland.

There were a few Ruth queries previously, based in Tipperary and Cavan, Cavan not close to Kilkenny but others are. You may find  more in English army records, were he signed on etc.

    Good Luck
