I am looking for any relations of Patrick Joseph Ryan and Mary Agnes Shanahan(my Paternal grandparents). Patrick was born ca october 1881 in Nenagh. His father was Patrick and his mother was Ellen(Helen?) (maiden name unknown). His father,I was told was a wheelwright and was also refered to as Paddy the Lion. The only things I heard about his mother were that she allegedly bought him out of the British Army and that she introduced him to "The Drop" when he was 12 years old(He had a problem with alcohol for the rest of his life). He emigrated from Queenstown in the spring of 1911 and landed at Philadelphia Pennsylvania. According to the Ship's Manafest,his occupation was listed as "carpenter" and was accompanied by one John Shanahan,age 18 years,occupation "farmer".He went to NewYork(living in Manhattan,the Bronx, and Queens). He died in November of 1972 at the Central Islip State Hospital,in Suffolk County New York.He was buried in St Mary's Cemetery in Yonkers,Westchester County,New York.
My grandmother,Mary Agnes Shanahan was born ca October 1886 in Dolla,Killeen,Nenagh(that is how she listed on her Declaration for Citizenship,which she filed for and received in 1925). Her father was Patrick and her mother was Sarah Ryan.She had 2 older brothers(William and Philip) and 1 younger brother(John) who all emigrated before her. She emigrated from Queenstown in July of 1912 and arrived at Ellis Island in August 1912. She married my grandfather in November 1912. They went on to have 7(or 8)children. The first was Helen Mary(November 1913-1984). Then Patrick Joseph(my father)(26 april 1915-31 may 1991).Sarah Delores(1917-2007),William Francis Joseph(1919-1992), Philip(1922-2018)(It was said that he had a twin-Mary-who died at birth),Mary Agnes(1924-2009), and Louis Vincent Thomas(1925-2009).She died of Meningitis on 27 april 1936 in the Bronx New York and was buried in St Mary's Cemetery on Yonkers New York.
